I’m sure the UAW is thrilled with this.

I’m surprised the UAW is OK with this, unions don’t usually take too well to managers coming in and doing jobs their members are supposed to do. Hell, people at UPS start getting all conspiratorial when anybody in management shows up at work in browns just to do a normal ride-along

I think that they are very much not OK with it. but...GM doesn’t give a shit (as usual)

Years ago I remember AT&T talking about temporarily reassigning office workers when contract negotiations were going badly . People I knew there were a little worried that they’d be told to fly halfway across the country to take a crash course in work they didn’t sign up for and stand in for striking union workers.

The UAW is definitely not ok with this. Problem is GM is trying to fill the positions with union labor but there are not enough people. So either they use white collar workers or the line stops. If that happens everyone loses.
The United Auto Workers union, which represents GM workers, is protesting the moves in Wentzville as a violation of its labor agreement with the automaker.
“We have strenuously objected,” said Brian Rothenberg, a UAW spokesman. “We’ve filed grievances on the local level, which is where that process starts. We’re hopeful it gets resolved quickly because the contract is clear.”

GM doesn’t care about the quality of their product, so why not?
They’ll get their regular salary plus possible overtime
Designed by accountants
, so why not built by them too? :p

There was a time a few years ago when our cabin cleaners went out on strike and almost everyone in management had to go clean airplanes. One vivid memory was that I never found the back of the 747 - I kept working cabin after cabin and never seemed to reach the end...

I wonder what Nina from corporate accounts payable will be doing. Powertrain installation perhaps.

Someone should read into the metal workers strikes some years ago. Plants like Kaiser Aluminum in Spokane had office workers and supervisors working overtime to produce metal. Some of these people hadn’t been on the line ever. Did go to well for some.
